I have never lived in a city with so many flowering trees as Oaxaca. They are everywhere, and the flowers aren't tiny little things - they're big and colorful, and there is something blooming all year round.
Take a look:
TabachÃn |
This picture on the right is taken at Santo Domingo Church, which you can see a little in the background.
Jacaranda |
Jacaranda trees drop tons of flowers and when you walk under them you walk on a bed of purple flowers.
Coquito |
These flowers are either white or pink. They make me think of giant fairy dusters (fairy dusters are small bush flowers from Arizona).
Cacaloxuchitl |
Cacaloxuchitl |
These last two are some of my favorite flowers...but you actually can't always see them very well, because their trees tend to grow tall and from below you just see the bottoms of the flowers. They're also called "Pulmeria."
Truffula tree |
Doesn't this look like something straight out of The Lorax? I named it 'Truffula tree' because I don't know what it's called.
Pomegranate |
Bougainvillea |
So, I always thought that bougainvilleas were bushes or vines, but they can actually be trees, and sometimes you see them standing upright with big thick trunks.
Primavera |
This tree's name means 'spring' in Spanish.

Hibiscus |
These are just trees blooming in March and April, and not even all of those. There are so many more! Not to mention the other kinds of flowers when you leave the city, because Oaxaca has mountains, desert, coast, and tropical climates.
